Uttaradhikar

Uncountable battles you have won behind the back,
Prudent, shrewd the soldier you are,
the anarchist - as some will say.
And the others who spit on your name
for the deities you have maligned.

The armour, embarrassed it reflects
hundreds of bodies stampeded by Mughal rampage,
where brave rajput souls still lie in dreamy eyes,
and their women - long been fed to satisfy.

The person you were, a predator
who never believed in his own blood,
could not have asked history to redeem you
of the fatwas that you once made, oh so coldly.

But tell me Aurangzeb,
today as you see the gallant successors
of yours, ominously lurking, possessing
whatever or whoever is affront,
Do you feel you were never a history?
Or it was just foolish of us to blame you.

Blood never bore the Mughal descendance.
It was always a stoic asset.
And so, in the name of uttaradhikar,
We have inherited what was already inside,

... history that we, ourselves despise of,
but possess, nevertheless.

Tell me this, Soumya. How do you do it? Each time you write and share, there is another piece of such profundity, that again, yet again, I gape at how much you bring to us, in unassuming words, modestly presented, yet, glint of pure sharp steel glimmers through! (That sentence was badly constructed, but what the heck, I dont know how else to say, tangibly :D)

Bravo! For the apt comparison. For the statement of truth that we are now. For calling the bluff of his descendants, no matter that they are not Mughals. For reminding us each time, we still live our somewhat forgettable history, and yet forget to live the really awesome parts!

I want to say more... but ... I cannot find words now. Am still gaping... :D

And... Permit me to share this on FB and twitter, please? Thanks :)

All the greed we see today and the deceit and the pelf
were definitely not taken off some old book shelf
they were all waiting for a chance to come out of our self
and to blame the past to say history sure does repeat itself.

Soumya, came here from Usha's FB status. I wish I was here earlier.

I must must come out of my jittery no-thanksgiving syndrome and actually say THANKS to all of you. I was really wondering how this would go with 'my style' and needless to say I am glowing with happiness here.

Thank you Gopal. One would die to have someone as you to encourage everytime, without fail. God bless you.

Ma'am what to say, You have just made this piece so special singlehandedly. Right from the fabulous comment to the generous share in FB n Twitter, there is little that CAN be done with this one. Thank you for everything. Its so good to have you around and more so to know you. :)

Govind, its a pleasure that you came and shared those wonderful 4 lines. They are so insightful themselves. Thank you so much.

YOu said you can just put a smile and make your presence felt.

But as fanatic I am about literature, I know a smile would demean it for this piece stands in an altogether separate strata of literature. A sublime insignia of your keen observation of history, not just as a subject but as a heritage, a culture - that place where we all have come from, but rarely pause to reflect.

You're marvelous.

You travel - Through unknown stations, passing empty paddy fields. over quiet rivers that rest beneath you. You bring a lot of earth along, And smell of mud, fish scales and trains.  You whisper and scream, Put your nails in me, occasionally call it love. Other nights, we make peace. Strangely at dawn, When the Sun rises and you see me sleeping,  I hear your whisper,  you travel ...   ... Deep inside me.

Wish I could be a cloud one day I will love to be grey if its you To whom, through whom I traverse. Transparency is optimum; For I know you are unattainable like the sand escaping from the fist like the meaning assumed from the gist. look, oh yes, I can rhyme too. If you wish I can artify our world. Inspiration never needs a permit. You had asked, Why do I vomit blood. Interruptions in dreamy un-realism doesn't suit me. I know. So I write. So that I can breathe you in and breathe dreams out. Live long, you had wished. (Wished), did you? honestly? I will let it pass like just another Failed attempt to face reality Finds itself en-route to contamination. Oh! then what is pure? you may ask. Purity is not you, not me, but us. Purity is the way verses traverse. I will vomit to death one day. Do not pray for me. Pray for my poems who are quiet. Let them borrow my breaths. Let the poetry for us live. (And the footnotes conclude:) You - a miser in love Me - a happy lender. SoUmy@

Together

I sit here to write An epic of love But words don't pay heed To my flowing senses. But what I write is about you. Who held the rain at her footsteps, Who could love the way Gothics shy And who can heal my scars Like I never had. And what I write is about me. Who drenched in the rain Like the raindrops, Who was loved the way He dreamt never. And who cried in the happiness beyond. So if ever the rain stops I would stand near you. If ever the scars anew I would feel your healing touch. If ever I don't sleep I would breathe you to sanity. On that rain soaked sands of Seashore And above the presence of lonesome moon, You would murmur the gentle song That I would echo in silence. And would pray, Somewhere, tiptoeing my wishes Dreams will rush up To another moment of blissful song offerings... SoUmY@
